Plants and animals in Hu Nan

Below are a few photos from my trip to Hu Nan last Oct holiday.

As the name suggests this album focuses on plants and animals.  Most of these were taken while out walking in the mountains of Hu Nan.  It is a beautiful land with amazing landscapes and plenty of wildlife.  Ok, so most are bugs, but hey that's wildlife in China!  I get excited when I see a worm in Beijing.  Unless it's flies or mosquitoes we just don't get much animal life around here!

Working in China 1

Below are some photos of work being done Chinese style.  It is often labor intensive, not so efficient and back breaking at most times.
I admire the work ethic but sometimes think there has got to be an easier way!

All of these but one were taken in Hu Nan during the harvesting of rice.  It was interesting to see how much labor goes into gathering all that rice.  Now I see why the Chinese say it is a sin to waste even one grain of rice.  A lot of labor is involved in getting it from the field to the table.

the photos of the construction workers were taken while we sat in traffic for over two hours on this little mountain road.  They stayed in the car while I walked clear across the mountain to take photos.  I didn't take my zoom lenses which I am still kicking myself for.

Drying rice.  He would rake it every few minutes to make sure it dried in the sun

I love the ingenuity but surely two people working together would be better than one person holding the board as  the other slides the bricks down!  Still they were good sports for letting me take their photo (taken in Beijing)

Making pulled ginger candy the old fashioned way, on a hook with a piece of wood to knead and twist  it
